The rewarding career opportunity for a plumber is endless and if you work hard you will have great opportunities for career progression.

How Long Does It Take To Become A Qualified Plumber?

Qualified plumbers don't become an experienced or skilled plumber overnight. This process takes time. The first step to becoming a plumber is to start an apprenticeship with a course that will get you certification. A plumbing apprenticeship with certification (Certificate III) generally takes 4 years which includes a mixture of in-school (TAFE) learning and on-the-job experience, meaning you will need to join a team that will allow you to work on multiple projects in order to become a skilled maintenance plumbing expert and help you gain the skills you will need in order to provide excellent customer service.

Once you have finished your apprenticeship & Certification you can then register to become a registered plumber, however, you will still need to do your plumber jobs under s licensed plumber as a registered plumber does not mean that you are licensed.

How Do You Become A Licensed Plumber?

In order to obtain a plumbing license in Sydney NSW, you will need to obtain a higher qualification which is a Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services. This will add another 2 years of training and education, however, you will have all the skills and qualifications you need to carry out maintenance jobs, gas fitting, installations, and all pipework jobs, and you will be able to issue compliance certificates.

Licensing will usually consist of an exam at a cost. Once that's completed and you have passed then you are ready to go! This means that it takes a minimum of 6 years to become a licensed plumber in Sydney NSW.
